For 50 years, Redwood has been nurturing young minds through our exceptional summer day camp experience. While we offer a wide variety of activities, our Nature & Science program stands as one of our most beloved and educational offerings. Our amazing team of counsellors and specialists creates a perfect counsellor to camper ratio, ensuring that every child from kindergarten campers to older participants receives personalized attention during these hands-on experiments and engaging activities. Our problem-solving activities encourage campers to think critically while engaging in exciting scientific challenges, making learning both fun and rewarding. Additionally, our animal lovers will find joy in observing and caring for the animals at our on-site farm, fostering a deep appreciation for nature
A Science Camp Experience Within a Complete Summer Adventure
Although Redwood offers comprehensive summer camps for day children of various ages, our Nature & Science activities provide a true "science camp" experience. Our specialized science program is thoughtfully integrated into the broader camp experiences, allowing campers to engage in hands-on learning while still enjoying swimming, sports, arts, and all the other daily activities Redwood offers.
From June through August, our camp's registration remains open for families seeking an amazing journey of discovery for their children. Each camp for ages 4-15 is carefully designed to balance fun and education through science through hands-on experiences that spark curiosity and critical thinking. Our camp for ages 4-6 focuses on sensory exploration, while our camp for ages 7-9 introduces more complex concepts, and our camp for ages 10-12 delves into deeper scientific inquiry. We even have specialized camp for ages 13-15 that incorporates hands-on learning and counsellor-in-training opportunities.
Meet Our Camps Team of Specialists
The heart of our Nature & Science program is our amazing team of camp staff who bring both expertise and enthusiasm to every session. The instructor to camper ratio is carefully maintained to ensure every child receives the guidance they need during hands-on experiments and problem-solving activities. Our dedicated camp counsellorswork closely with each group, creating a supportive environment where questions are encouraged and discovery is celebrated.
These passionate educators form the backbone of our camp experiences, creating an environment where skills through hands-on development happens naturally. From guiding nursery and kindergarten campers through their first chemistry experiments to challenging older participants from camp with more complex cool projects, our camps team adapts to meet each child's needs. These cool projects often become the highlight of a camper's week, as they combine scientific principles with creative expression.
Hands-On Learning That Inspires
At Redwood, learning in science happens through direct experience. Our hands-on activities form the foundation of our science camp approach. Rather than simply telling campers about scientific concepts, we let them discover through amazing, hands-on experiments that bring science to life.
Each day of camp brings new fun experiments that spark imagination. Whether they're conducting chemistry experiments that bubble and change color, building structures to understand physical forces, or walking through our forested area, campers develop valuable skills through hands-on problem-solving activities that make science exciting and accessible. These fun experiments are carefully designed to balance educational value with pure enjoyment, ensuring that learning feels like play.
Cool Science Activities and Projects
One of the most popular aspects of our Nature & Science program is the cool activities that campers create using basic materials and a variety of tools. These cool projects encourage campers to continue their scientific exploration beyond camp hours, extending the thrilling journey of discovery to home.
These aren't just fun creations—they reinforce scientific concepts learned through hands-on experiments at camp. These cool activities encourage continued learning in science and experimentation. The excitement of sharing their cool projects with their friends and bunk mates creates a natural bridge between camp experiences and continued learning.
The Joy of Tree Planting and Outdoor Activities

Among our most meaningful outdoor activities is our tree planting program. This hands-on learning experience teaches campers about environmental science while allowing them to make a lasting impact. As they carefully place their saplings in the soil during these engaging activities, our specialists guide discussions about photosynthesis and the animal habitats these trees will eventually support.
Science at Redwood happens outdoors with activities designed to take full advantage of our beautiful setting. These daily activities in nature help children understand ecosystems while enjoying fresh air and sunshine—a perfect combination for summer camps focused on whole-child development.
Our On-Site Animal Farm: Where Science Meets Compassion

A highlight for animal lovers in our camp experiences is Redwood's own animal farm, where campers observe animal traits and learn about animal habitats firsthand. This space provides the perfect setting for discussions about adaptations, behaviors, and needs.
For nursery and kindergarten campers especially, these visits offer a calm introduction to biological sciences through gentle interactions with farm animals. Under the guidance of our camps team, children discover how each creature plays a unique role in its ecosystem, reinforcing concepts of biodiversity through hands-on learning opportunities. The hands-on learning experiences with animals create powerful emotional connections to their environment..
The animal farm allows campers ages 4 to 15 to share discoveries and questions with each other. These outdoors activities foster not only scientific understanding but also empathy and responsibility toward living creatures. Fellow campers often form special bonds through these shared experiences with animals.
An Unforgettable Week of Daily Activities at Redwood
Each awesome week at nature and science brings new thrilling journey segments with hands-on learning activities. This progression ensures every unforgettable week builds upon previous knowledge while introducing new concepts through amazing, hands-on experiments and exciting activities that captivate young minds. The problem-solving activities each week help campers develop critical thinking skills as well as encourage the enjoyment of sharing ideas through discovery and teamwork.
