Since 1974, Redwood Country Day Camp has been creating unforgettable summer memories on our beautiful 27-acre property in Vaudreuil-Dorion. Among our many exciting activities, our rock climbing wall stands as a symbol of adventure, where both beginner, novice climbers and more experienced climbers discover the joy of outdoor climbing in a safe, supportive environment.
A Typical Climbing Day at Redwood
When campers arrive at our climbing wall, they're greeted by certified instructors who prioritize both safety and fun. Beginning with proper equipment fitting and safety procedures, each session is tailored to the climber's age and experience level. Our youngest adventurers (ages 4-5) start with basic movements and short climbs, while older campers can challenge themselves with more complex walls.
A Climbing Experience Designed for Young Adventurers
Our 24-foot rock wall offers six unique climbing walls, each designed specifically for our campers aged 4-15. Unlike indoor climbing walls you might find at climbing gyms, our outdoor environment provides a more natural and engaging climbing experience. Every climber is equipped with proper equipment, including a secure climbing harness and climbing rope, plus our unique secondary braking system for added safety.
Safety First, Always
At Redwood, safety is at the heart of every climbing session. Our experienced instructors ensure that each camper learns proper climbing techniques while being securely equipped with protective gear. From well-maintained harnesses and secure climbing ropes to safety anchors and backup systems, every precaution is taken to create a safe and supportive environment. This comprehensive approach allows campers to focus on developing their climbing skills, improving their physical strength, and building confidence—all while enjoying the thrill of scaling new heights.
Learning and Growing Through Climbing

Beyond the Climb: The Benefits of Rock Climbing at Redwood
The benefits of rock climbing at Redwood go far beyond just the physical challenge. As campers navigate different climbing techniques and refine their movement quality, they develop essential skills that contribute to their overall growth. Climbing strengthens the core and improves balance, while also enhancing handgrip strength for secure holds. It fosters problem-solving abilities, mental focus, and determination, teaching campers how to assess challenges and push through obstacles. Each successful climb—whether it’s a first attempt or mastering a more difficult movement—builds muscular endurance, psychological resilience, and self-confidence that stays with them long after camp ends.
How Our Climbing Program Works
Each climbing session at Redwood begins with a thorough safety briefing and equipment fitting, ensuring that every camper is prepared for a safe and enjoyable climb. Under the guidance of our experienced climbing instructors, campers learn the fundamentals of climbing techniques, including how to properly use handholds and footholds, find stable resting positions, and apply safe climbing practices. As they gain confidence, they also explore creative ways to tackle different routes, enhancing both their problem-solving skills and agility.
With six distinct climbing faces offering varying levels of difficulty, every camper—from young first-time climbers to experienced teenagers looking to refine their skills—can progress at their own pace. No matter their starting point, each climber experiences personal achievement and growth, making rock climbing at Redwood an exciting and rewarding challenge.
Professional Instruction and Safety
Our climbing instructors bring extensive knowledge of aid techniques and climbing guide expertise to every session. They understand the different types of rock climbing and adapt their teaching methods to each camper's skill level.
Building Community Through Climbing
Our climbing wall creates an outdoor space where campers encourage each other and celebrate every achievement. This positive environment helps develop:
Team spirit and cooperation
Communication skills
Leadership abilities
Mutual respect and support
Lasting friendships
A Typical Climbing Session
During each climbing period, campers learn and practice:
Safe climbing movements
Different climbing walls
Supporting fellow climbers
Setting and achieving personal goals
No matter how high they climb, every attempt is celebrated as a personal victory, building confidence that extends well beyond the climbing wall.

Growing with Every Climb
At Redwood, we understand that every camper progresses at their own pace. As children become more comfortable with the basic form of climbing, they are able to try more difficult walls.. Our six different wall faces create a natural environment that helps campers develop their skills progressively.
