Gaga Ball: The Camp Favourite

If you've visited Redwood, you've probably noticed our 2 dedicated Gaga ball courts—a favorite amongst campers. This fast-paced game combines dodging, striking, running, and jumping, making it the perfect physical activity for campers of all ages.

How to Play: Players start with one hand touching the wall of the octagonal pit. When the game begins, they try to hit the ball at or below knee level to get other players out. The last player standing wins!

What makes Gaga special at Redwood is how it brings together campers across all ages.  Even our youngest nursery and kindergarten campers (ages 4-5) love this exciting game, making it a true camp favorite.

Redwood Relay Races

No summer camp would be complete without relay races! At Redwood Country Day Camp, we've elevated this classic game with unique variations that keep campers coming back for more.

Our Camper Favorites:

• Potato Sack Races: A classic that never gets old!

• Wheelbarrow Race: One player standing, one on hands while the standing player holds their feet

• Water Balloon Toss: Perfect for hot summer days

These field games are particularly popular during our weekly theme days, especially Sports Mania and Colour Blast, where friendly competition between teams across the camp reaches its peak!

Volleyball

Volleyball on a sandy court amongst the trees is a camp favorite and creates an exciting challenge for older campers.

This game helps develop coordination, teamwork, and strategic thinking—all while having a blast on our beautiful outdoor court!

Scavenger Hunts with a Redwood Twist

Scavenger hunts at Redwood aren't your ordinary treasure hunts. Utilizing our expansive grounds—complete with sports fields, animal farm, bike trails, and nature areas—we create exciting hunts that engage campers' minds and bodies.

What Makes Ours Special: Each hunt incorporates our camp theme for the week. During Hero Day, campers might search for "superhero badges" while completing kindness missions along the way. On Country Western Day, they might follow clues leading to our animal farm where they can visit our llamas, alpacas and goats!

Bears vs. Moose Competitions

One of the most exciting aspects of Redwood's Sports Mania theme day is the legendary Bears vs. Moose competition. These friendly rivalries transform our playing fields into exciting challenges where fellow campers cheer each other on through a variety of classic camp games.

From tug-of-war challenges to relay races, these team competitions foster a sense of camp spirit while teaching the value of good sportsmanship. What makes these games special is how they embody our R.O.C.K. values—emphasizing Respect for opponents and Community building over individual victories.

Pool Games and Waterslide Fun

With four outdoor swimming pools and two specially designed waterslides ("Speedway" & "Twister"), water activities are a cornerstone of the Redwood experience. Our pool games transform daily swim sessions into exciting adventures!

After  morning swim instruction based on "Swim for Life" principles, our afternoon recreational swimming games provide the perfect balance of structured learning and pure fun in the water. And of course, racing down our waterslides remains a highlight of every camper's day!

Driver's Ed Fun

One of Redwood's most unique offerings is our Driver's Ed program—a golf-cart driving activity for grades 1 and up that campers absolutely love!

Under careful supervision, campers learn to navigate a simple course in a special golf cart, with an additional braking system for the instructor. This isn't just fun—it teaches responsibility, following directions, and basic vehicle awareness in a safe, controlled environment.

This activity highlights our commitment to providing novel experiences that can't be found at every summer camp.

Animal Farm Adventures

While not a traditional "game," our interactive animal farm activities are among the most beloved parts of the Redwood day camp experience.  We turn these interactions into engaging games and challenges that teach responsibility and animal care while creating unforgettable moments of connection.
