Parent Must Know List

Important information for a worry free summer.

Camp Tours

This year we will be offering camp tours for family bubbles.

June 23rd, 24th & 25th, 2021 from 10am - 4pm.

This is a great opportunity for campers and parents to visit the camp, receive an informative tour and and get the answers to any questions they might have. The tours are 30 minutes long and by appointment only, so please call the office to reserve your spot.

Our highly trained staff will be here to answer all your questions and show you a great time!!

Medications from home

If your child requires medicine that must be administered at camp, please be sure to phone the office and let us know. Since children often forget their medicine, we prefer that medicine is given to the bus duty monitor for delivery to the camp office.

All medications are to be kept at the health center and administered by the camp health care provider!

Do not send medication with your child to be self-administered.  Always label the medication container clearly. The medication should be in its original pharmaceutical container with the directions on the container with the following information: camper’s full name, age, name of bus, dosage, name of medication, and when and how long to be administered. A written signed authorization must accompany any medication. If your child has specific requirements, please review your situation with the office prior to the start of camp..

A completed Health Form must be received by the office, prior to your child’s start of camp.

Nut Awareness

Redwood is not a nut free camp but we would like to minimize any risks to children with peanut/nut allergies at camp.  Please, do not send products containing nuts to camp and particularly peanut butter.  Read food and beverage labels carefully in order to ensure the well being of all campers.  Campers that have peanut butter/nutella for breakfast should wash their hands and face thoroughly before leaving for camp.

Sun Smart

Parents should put sunscreen on their children prior to leaving home in the morning and have a labelled bottle of sunscreen in their bag to be applied during the day. Sunscreen should be water proof and should not be in spray format. Counsellors will ensure that sunscreen is reapplied during the day, so sending campers to camp with sunscreen is essential.

Irritated Eyes

Some new waterproof sunscreen products can irritate eyes after direct contact. Please encourage your children to be careful when applying sunscreen to their face.  It is important that they wipe it from their hands after applying it.

Children with sensitive skin should use a sunscreen specifically designed for the face that is

hypo-allergenic and has no artificial colouring.

Bus Information

Redwood's Bus Co-ordinator designs and organizes all the routes safely and efficiently. Departure from camp is between 3:00 and 3:15 P.M.  It is important that someone is at home to greet the camper from 3:45 P.M. onward.

The AM and PM bus schedule can be affected by differences in weekly attendance and traffic.  Parents should expect some fluctuations in pick-up and drop-off times throughout the summer. In order to minimize overall travelling time, please make sure your child is ready in the morning.

Please read our bussing safety & protocol page to review the new Covid-19 bus regulations.

If your child is missing the day at camp, please place the Redwood no bus sign in your window and the bus will go by without stopping. If you know ahead that your child will not be attending camp, please call the office to inform us. Please note that we cannot accept requests for campers to be picked up from or be delivered to any address different than their usual pick up and drop off routine.

Clothing List

Campers should be dressed according to the weather when they leave in the morning. They should carry in their knapsacks the clothing they  may require for the forecasted weather. On cloudy or rainy days, the campers should bring rainboots, a raincoat, and extra socks. Running shoes are recommended, not flip-flops.

Driving to Camp

Identification Cards

Special Redwood ID cards are given to families driving their children to camp.  Please contact us with the names of family members, babysitters, and/or guardians who will be authorized to pick up your children.  The ID cards will be sent to you by mail, or given to you on the first day your child is attending camp.

Arrival during Camp Hours

For families who have not requested extended day, our regular time of arrival is between 8:45-9:30 A.M.  At the top of the camp road, you will see the “Tropicana” cabana on the left where staff members will greet your children and check off an attendance sheet showing that you have arrived.  The children will then be taken to the unit areas in front of the tennis court where everyone has gathered to start the day.  It is important to always check in with the staff at Tropicana.

Departure during Camp Hours

Regular departing hours are between 3:00-3:30 P.M.  Authorized individuals wait for the children in front of Tropicana.  Identification cards are shown by the individuals picking up the children.  When the children arrive at Tropicana, they are then checked off on the attendance sheet.  Again for security  reasons, it is important that the children go to Tropicana to be checked off before leaving camp.

Extended Hours

Extended hours in the morning are from 7:30 to 8:45 A.M. and in the afternoon between 3:30 and 5:30 P.M.  The charge is $7.00 per hour per child and we round the time off to the closest half hour.  Please  contact us with the extended day hours and names of those who will pick up your children from camp.  We will then hire our extended day staff according to the hours that you have requested.

• 2 Towels
• Ice pack (in lunchbox)
• 2 Swimsuits
• Sunscreen
• Bug Repellent

• Extra clothing

(for wet belongings)

We suggest that all campers wear their bathing suits to camp in the morning under their clothing and pack underwear in their knapsack. Little ones should have an extra set of clothing in their bag.

We are not able to distribute birthday food for the bunks.  Growing numbers of children with food allergies and the risks prevent us from handing out these treats to the bunk.  If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday at camp, send party favors for the bunk instead.  Please give us a call to let us know that you are sending any such items.

Camper Birthdays
Drinks, Freezies
+ Canteen

Water fountains are found in the center of camp.  Freezies are given in the afternoon to all children. Nursery and kindergarten children are also given juice and cookies each morning.

Once or twice a week, campers are able to go to the canteen  to buy drinks or treats. The counsellor will let you know which day is assigned to the bunk. Please note that this is totally optional!

Bi-Weekly Swim Reports

Children receive a swim report every two weeks, keeping parents informed of the children's level a progress in the daily swim instruction program.  Each child is assigned a PIN # which is used to access the online report card.

Lost and Found

Please ensure that your child's belongings are well labelled so that we may return all lost items to you.

If your child loses an item, fill out the Lost & Found form and give it to the bus monitor or the office. This will assist us in locating the item as soon as possible.
